I need to buy a Dehumidifier for my home in New England, any recommendations?

Leon B asked:

I recently moved to New England and have a house outside of Boston. The basement is dry, but you can definetly feel the humidity especially on those snowy/rainy days. I would like to get a dehumidifier, and have seen price ranges that run the gammit from cheap to super expensive. Curious what peoples experiences have been with both the smaller/portable units and the larger/whole house units. Thanks.

How long do I keep a dehumidifer on for?

annemumborumbo asked:

I have bought a dehumidifer for my house. The bedroom windows are all soaking wet in the mornings. Do I leave it on all the time or just at night or just during the day? It has an automatic cut out and cuts off when there is no moisture, then just goes back on again when there is.
How much does it cost to run?
I’m in Cornwall - and its wet, cold and windy!!!

What can you do with water from a dehumidifier?

milt13077 asked:

I have a dehumidifier in my basement. I have to empty the water at least two times a day. Is there something I can do with the water, other than pour it down the drain?

lTo control humidity in a huge storage closet in Mexico, should I instal an extractor fan or a dehumidifier?

stumpy asked:

We’re building a house in coastal Mexico–VERY humid climate. We’ll be absent for six months of the year. During our absences, we’ll be storing clothing, linens, and electronic equip. in a closet, which is 12 feet by 7 feet by 10 feet in height (840 cubic feet). We need a system that will come on and off, depending on moisture in the room at any given time. If a dehumidifer is the best choice, we will plumb it directly into the house drains.

Extraction fan or dehumifier–difficult choice!!Everyone out there: thanks for your help!!

My humidity is at 55% in my home?

lm asked:

I just bought a meter to detect how much humidity is in my home. IT is at 55% and on the box it says it shouldn’t be over 50%. What can i do to lower the humidity? Is a dehumidifer the only way? Should I start to worry about mold growing now?

Is dehumidifier water safe to use for washing?

Lunarsight asked:

They shut the water off in my apartment to fix pipes. And I was trying to figure out if the water in the dehumidifier tank was safe to use for a facecloth. I mean - it looks fairly clean.
