what is a good level to set my dehumidifier at? I have it at 35 now?

nitowl asked:

we had a wet spot on our carpet in the basement. We had it dried out and with a dehumidifier on it has stayed dry. The setting is at 35 and the resevoir fills about every 24 hours. Is this to low? What is a good setting?

I’m thinking about putting unvented gas logs in my basement rec room. Will this add too much humidity?

dbm77 asked:

I already need to run a dehumidifer. I read that gas logs add moisture to a room. And how about gas odor?

My landlord tells me to get a dehumidifier?

tessypoo74 asked:

Hello everyone
I live in an older farm house style home and I have this nasty crawl space (where mice live) downstairs and I am on a well system. Now that spring has started I have water all over my basement floor that is running through the crawl space and pooling by the sump pump. My landlord is a know and just tells me to get a dehumidifier. Will this really fix it or is he once again just being a lazy ass? It smells like sewage in my house!!!
Thanks
Tess

Will a dehumidifier work well in conjunction with an evaporative (swamp) cooler?

darth_momm asked:

I live in the desert and use a swamp cooler, but lately the house is just getting too humid to be comfortable. Would it help to run a dehumidifier to eliminate some of the extra humidity being created by the cooler? Right now the inside temp is 80 degrees and the humidity is 48%.

Why does a dehumidifier make the temperature go up?

Lola76 asked:

I just bought a dehunidifier for my basement because it was recently finished and seemed to have dampness in the air. I started it up yesterday and it collected a lot of water, but the temperature in the room went up 4 degrees and it was getting pretty warm (80 degrees!). I had it set to 45% humidity but then I increased it to 55% when it started getting warm. Is this normal? Does the water in the air make the room cooler? I had a dehumidifier in the basement when I was growing up and don’t remember this happening. Thanks!
I know that typically humidity will cause the room to be warmer, but this is the opposite. The dehumidifier is taking moisture out of the air and that is causing the room to warm up.

My dehumidifier gets very hot on the back. Is this normal?

Andrew G asked:

I have a Whirlpool dehumidifier in my basement (not a part of the recall) and it runs continuously — it is set for continuous and has a hose to get rid of the water directly down the drain. The back (where the condenser is) blows hot air and gets quite hot to the touch. Is this normal or a fire concern?

Is there a quiet dehumidifier?

Ceci asked:

We recently purchased a Kenmore 70 pint. It was so noisy! It was placed in the basement on a concrete floor. We recently had a lightning strike and the surge took out the dehumidifer. Now we have to replace it and I want something more quiet.
