Will using a dehumidifier remove water from damaged drywall?

Shelley C asked:

There was a leak in my bathroom that severely damaged the drywall. The paint buckled and the drywall began to pucker and crumble, especially along the floorboards. My landlord is using a room dehumidifier to remove the moisture from the walls. Will this work? Or does the drywall need to be removed and replaced?

Does a window AC unit dehumidify the living space?

eric_seeger asked:

I was wondering if the water that drips out of a window AC unit is condensation that’s coming out of the living space? Or is that condensation from the outdoors air? Personally, I think those things pull more moisture out of the air than one of those little standalone dehumidifiers.

It is definitely getting the moisture out of the air in the basement, but at the same time it is heating it up.

What is the best way to store furniture in a storage unit?

Jenna asked:

I will be moving to TX soon and my wooden furniture will not be able to fit in my apartment. I don’t know how long I will be there, but I am planning on having my items stored in a non-climatized storage unit. I am most worried about my antique wood pieces that will not fit in my apartment.

How can I help keep moisture levels down in my unit? Are there battery opperated dehumidifiers?

What is the best way to store my wooden furniture?

Any suggestions to help eliminate the musty unit smells? How can I keep my furniture from smelling gross?

What can you do with water from a dehumidifier (aside from dumping it down the drain) that benefits the earth?

James Y asked:

Also, is water from a dehumidifier pure enough to drink? Or does it depend on the model…
It’s not just the electricity used, but also the fossil fuels burned to take more water out of a faucet that could’ve been taken from the dehumidifier. I know it’s insignificant, but over time it could save a lot, especially if, as with a lot of things like CFLs, everyone did it.

Whats the cause for Mold in homes?

sarajandrowski asked:

I have a small 2 bedroom home that I rent. Since the day i moved in, there has been a moisture problem. And its in the middle of Winter “the dry season i thought”. All of my windows collect moisture and then rapidly grows mold in the windowsills and in the corners of some of the rooms by the floor boards, too. I keep the fan on in the bathroom 24/7. And dehumidifiers don’t help. Below both the front door and the back door I get a strip of frost sometimes ICE inside the house below the bottom of the doors. Help? Is it Serious?
The Windows have recently been replaced in the entire house! They are brand new! The Furnice isn’t kept hot, its at about 68 degrees, and as for the weather stripping both doors have it too! Someone suggested that the Whole house has a ventilation problem…. or the house may be too Sealed up… ????
