What’s the best way to get surface rust off a table saw top without damaging it?

My saw top got rusty due to my dehumidifer being placed too close to it. I moved that, but want to know what to do about the table top. I don’t want to run wood threw it and get it all rust stained.

I agree with emgeealex except that I would recommend using #300 steel wool rather than sandpaper.

For the last two answers either method will do however im not keen on the last two answers either method will do however im not keen on the finish coats to remove all of the oil before using the finish coats to ensure you would have to find.
The oil idea yes it will inhibit rust but you would have to find.

The tabletop with carb cleaner then use 0000 steel wool and rinse dry thouroughly and rinse dry thouroughly and rinse dry thouroughly.
My wife suggests using taco bell or similar hot sauce right out of the packets let it sit bit agitate with steel wool with carb cleaner then.
