It’s supposed to cycle out the compressor after a few minutes running time to defrost the coils. If you didn’t get frost or ice as you call it on them. It wouldn’t take the humidy out of the air. When they defrost, it goes into the drain pan in the bottom, then the cycle starts all over again. If you have seen the coils in a window unit A/C with the cover off, you’d see the frost there to after several minutes of run time. With the A/c unit though, there’s a drain tube that runs through the bottom of it toward the rear and the fan picks it up and bows it through the condensor section. Thus evaporating the moisture to the outside.
